Re-defining Health Equity

There is a consistent debate of what the term "equity" means. In the context of health and wellness outcomes this debate has been framed by "health disparities." Apparently there are differences in the health outcomes of differing groups of people. In order to define, and therefore redefine what is equitable we may have to rethink which differences are real and which are not. For example, in a study examining the differences in obesity levels among black and white women that reside in the same urban city, the findings showed there were no significant differences. However, most studies on obesity and women show black women have a higher prevalence rate. Do they? Or, are our measuring tools and methods outdated and incapable of providing us with a real picture.
